EU-MED Event 3 was the 1st EUMEDGRID-Support high-policy event co-organised with EUMEDCONNECT2 and GÉANT, held in Brussels, Belgium 30-31 March 2010. Two Upcoming Grid Schools - Algeria - Jointly Organised by EUMEDGRID-Support and EPIKH - 19 May 2010
Algeria is set to host 2 upcoming Grid Schools jointly organised by EUMEDGRID-Support and the EPIKH project dedicated to Grid Site Administrators and Application Porting in June-July 2010. Following the Grid Schools will also be a Workshop focusing on the outcomes of the schools dedicated to both to the scientific community and to the decision makers demonstrating practical examples of the usefulness of e-Infrastructures for e-Science and the importance of their sustainability.

This booklet was written thanks to the contribution of EUMEDCONNECT and EUMEDGRID projects and the Development Activity of GÉANT2. It addresses European and Mediterranean decision makers in the ICT and Research domain (politicians, civil servants, Directors of large research organizations and facilities, senior ICT consultants to Ministers in the Euro-Mediterranean area, as well as relevant International organization and agencies and Private Companies) with the single aim of drawing their attention on the status and perspectives of e-Infrastructures in the Mediterranean....

Presentations are available for download on the Programme Agenda for the launch event of both EUMEDGRID-Support and EUMEDCONNECT2. The high impact agenda included speakers from the EC Delegation in Cairo, Project Coordinators and Egyptian invited speakers with more than 50 participants on hand. Presentations covered topics such as International Cooperation; e-Infrastructures in FP7; EU-funded Projects focusing on the region; Biology; Health; and Earth Sciences.

With the rapid advancement of technology in the world of science calls for a demand for more and more computing power. The implementation and co-ordination of a grid infrastructure at a national (or larger) level opens up important opportunities to optimise the usage of existing, limited storage and computing resources, improve their accessibility and empower research groups from several domains.
There is no need for e-Infrastructures without a user community correspondingly exploiting them. The project has an important responsibility to support existing user’s applications and assist new applications that will run on the Mediterranean e-Infrastructure. This activity is also committed to study and deliver a strategy for the long-term sustainability of the support system that will be put in place during the project lifetime.
