The European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) has issued a list of major Pan-European facilities and services and subsequent updates thereto, which are unique to Europe due to their sheer size or cost involved in their establishment. The e-IRG has issued clear roadmaps describing present and future Pan-European e-infrastructures, that due to their scale require long term planning, and cross-border operations beyond a single administrative domain, but has a fairly short technological refreshment cycle of about three years.
EU-MED Event 3 was the 1st EUMEDGRID-Support high-policy event co-organised with EUMEDCONNECT2 and GÉANT, held in Brussels, Belgium 30-31 March 2010. This report, written by Trust-IT Services Ltd.( EUMEDGRID-Support partner), summarises the event attended by more than 90 participants, provides an overview of key topics covered, highlights the announcement of the Arab States Research and Education Network and offers the professional profile and presentation abstracts of the high-profile speakers and full delegate list.

With the rapid advancement of technology in the world of science calls for a demand for more and more computing power. The implementation and co-ordination of a grid infrastructure at a national (or larger) level opens up important opportunities to optimise the usage of existing, limited storage and computing resources, improve their accessibility and empower research groups from several domains.
