EUMEDCONNECT3 – Key E-Infrastructure for Collaborative Research
Since 2004 the EUMEDCONNECT programme has provided the only e-Infrastructure in the Mediterranean region dedicated for research and educational use. EUMEDCONNECT3 provides e-Infrastructure giving high-capacity connectivity for research and education purposes in the southern and eastern Mediterranean region. It enables researchers and academics in these countries to collaborate with their counterparts in the Arab and European research and education communities. Over 40 million users on over 8000 research and education establishments across Europe can be reached via the GÉANT pan-European which EUMEDCONNECT3 connects into.
EUMEDCONNECT3 was formally launched at the e-AGE in Amman, Jordan.
A range of application projects requiring high capacity and reliable connectivity between their partners within the region and in Europe rely on EUMEDCONNECT3 as essential infrastructure. End user sites connect via their national research and education networks. The EUMEDCONNECT3 project makes no charges to end user projects.

EUMEDCONNECT3 & EUMEDGRID-Support
Significant synergies exist between EUMEDCONNECT3 and EUMEDGRID-Support which were officialised in a Memorandum of Understanding in 2010. Both projects cover the Med region, pursuing complementary actions and have several Mediterranean partners in common. EUMEDGRID-Support collaborated with EUMEDCONNECT3 to support the establishment of the Arab States Research and Education Network (ASREN) which became a legal entity in 2011. Co-located meetings of both projects were previously held in Cairo, Brussels, Algiers and Rome with another meeting co-located with the e-AGE, 12-14 December 2011 in Amman.
